Welch LLP Sponsors University of Ottawa Business School

FIVE Year Commitment to Telfer School of business - University of ottawa

Welch LLP is pleased to announce an innovative partnership with the University of Ottawa School of Management, which will help sustain and grow the School's accounting program. Welch has established a two-part relationship with the university. First, Welch LLP will be responsible for teaching an undergraduate course for a term of five years. This task has been taken on by Tax Manager Rob Meers. Second, the school will create the Welch LLP Accounting Fellowship with a $100,000 gift payable over 5 years. According to Dean Micheà l J. Kelly, "Welch's strong support will help the School overcome the shortage of accounting professors that plagues many business schools across Canada."

Accounting is a very important specialization at the University of Ottawa School of Management. It represents 28% of undergraduate enrollments and 32% of all co-op placements. However, in the current market conditions, recruiting accounting faculty and finding part time staff to teach specialized courses is an ongoing challenge for the School of Management. "We have been looking for support, creative solutions and leadership from the local accounting profession" commented Kelly, "I am pleased that Welch LLP has come through and has committed to supporting our accounting program with an innovative two-part solution."
