With 20 years of experience, Christa Casey has become an expert in auditing not-for-profit organizations.
Christa joined Welch LLP in 1995 as a co-op student and began full-time in 1997, after completing her Bachelor of Commerce with a specialization in Accounting from the University of Ottawa. She obtained her Chartered Accountant designation in 1999. Christa is fluently bilingual and works with clients and staff members in the language of their choice.
In January 2010, Christa was appointed Welch LLP’s Director, Not-for-Profit Sector because of her extensive experience in auditing not-for-profit organizations. Prior to this, Christa was a Quality Assurance Manager for nearly four years. Her previous and current position requires a high level of technical competence while staying informed of all developments in accounting and auditing standards.
In 2014, Christa was honoured to be a recipient of the Ottawa Business Journal’s Forty under 40 award. She also received her certification that year for CPA Ontario’s Not-for-Profit and Charity Finance Leadership program.
For seven years, Christa was a Practice Inspector and then a File Reviewer for CPA Ontario. Her work in practice inspection involved reviewing the work and quality assurance policies of public accounting firms throughout Ontario to ensure that they are compliant with auditing, accounting and ethical standards. In 2015, Christa was appointed as a member of CPA Ontario’s Practice Inspection Committee. Christa also teaches risk based auditing standards to Welch staff and develops tools to assist them in the risk assessment process for each audit engagement.

Favorite books (or authors):
I read so much technical material professionally that I like to read fiction or biographies in my free time.
Most memorable vacation
My favourite family vacation was to Northern California. We soaked up the sun doing so many fun activities like hiking up Moro Rock, white water rafting and panning for gold.
All-time favorite artist would be the Beatles but if I was to choose a genre, it would probably be Southern Rock.
I have a few: Home Alone, Dumb & Dumber and the Hunger Games
